Gabrielle Duggan, fiber artist, and Adrian Smith, ant scientist, collaborated on the art installation: Architectural Intersections: Ants, Art, & Science. The piece is on public display until January 2018 in Adrian Smith's glass-walled research lab in the Nature Research Center of the NC Museum of Natural Sciences. Art is a tool for communication. Science communication is now more important than ever. There is a need to find new ways for scientist to share their work with the public to reach a wider audience.

While the role of science influencing art isn't new, here I hope to highlight examples of this happening with entomology inspiring art pieces and in turn help spread wonder about our natural world. As an entomologist and science communicator, sharing an art piece inspired by an insect is a great way to get a conversation about the insect and their role in our environment started.
